BodySchool : Caring for our Necks
27– 30th December 2016

neck workshop narrow
The inspiration for this workshop is to share some of the insights I gained from suffering and subsequently healing from a serious neck injury: a herniated disk for which an operation was eventually recommended. I chose the self-healing path instead and now I’m well on the way to recovery. Though I wouldn’t wish the injury on anyone, I feel nonetheless that I have an enhanced awareness of how I feel and use my neck as a result of the process I went through.

In this workshop, I’ll share some of the practices that helped me through this healing process: ways of thinking and understanding the neck in anatomical terms; ways of using orientation to the external environment to support easier alignment of my neck; ways to work with with the neck through; together with a least one Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement class each day.

BodySchool is a workshop series that applies somatic and postmodern dance practices to everyday life situations. The workshops move fluidly between lecture and class formats maintaining a sense of lightness, ease and good humour. There is nothing in these workshops to get right. The aim instead is to foster a physical dialogue with ourselves and the environment in which we become empowered to be our own experts.

My work is founded upon my interest to create the conditions to meet ourselves afresh with a childlike sense of wonder. I try do this through engaging playfully with our innate curiosity unhindered by expectation. This attitude, as much as the material itself, is what I offer through my work.
