Bodyschool
BodySchool is an ongoing workshop series in which I share my research into the application of somatic and postmodern dance practices to everyday life situations in a way that is accessible and relevant to anyone.
In this short course, I will focus on introducing the Feldenkrais Method, one of the key somatic practices in my work. Each class will include a Feldenkrais lesson plus time for me to explain a little about the method, take questions and discuss whatever comes up.
There are eight classes, two each Monday for four weeks, and the offer is to attend as many or as few classes as you like.
The Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais method is a far-reaching multi-layered somatic educational system which offers to improve the quality, range and comfort with which we move. Since we are moving every moment of our lives, improving how we move can improve all that we do. At its core is a radical way of thinking about learning. We learn to how to learn better.
The challenge in a Feldenkrais class is to pay attention to ourselves as we move. We gain in flexibility and strength not through stretching or exerting ourselves, but by working slowly and gently in a way that enables us to listen to what it is we are actually doing.
It is through refining our ability to sense what it is that we are doing while we do it that we educate ourselves to act in better coordinated, more efficient and graceful ways.
As in all BodySchool workshops, mp3 recordings of all Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement classes will be provided so that participants can listen at home to the classes presented in the workshop.
