BodySchool : Exploring The Feldenkrais Method

In this weekend workshop, we’ll explore some Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement (ATM) classes. We’ll see how to relate the movements of a particular class to everyday life as well as considering the general application of the skills we learn through practicing the method.

The weekend is intended for anyone, no matter how much or how little expereince of the method you have. There are several thousand different ATM classes and each class is uniquely delivered according to who is present. I’ll choose the classes according to who is coming so you can be sure you’ll be meeting something new!

As in all BodySchool workshops, mp3 recordings of all Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement classes will be provided free so that participants can listen at home to the classes presented in the workshop.

The Feldenkrais Method

The Feldenkrais method is a far-reaching multi-layered somatic educational system which offers to improve the quality, range and comfort with which we move. Since we are moving every moment of our lives, improving how we move can improve all that we do. At its core is a radical way of thinking about learning. We learn to how to learn better.

The challenge in a Feldenkrais class is to pay attention to ourselves as we move. We gain in flexibility and strength not through stretching or exerting ourselves, but by working slowly and gently in a way that enables us to listen to what it is we are actually doing.

It is through refining our ability to sense what it is that we are doing while we do it that we educate ourselves to act in better coordinated, more efficient and graceful ways. more …
